I can hear the sound of an impending doom. Loud and clear! My trusty Sony Vaio is making that characteristic humming noise that I can hear miles away. Uh ok, maybe not miles away but its enough to attract glares in an otherwise silent and inconsequential meeting. Got any ideas?
Of course, I won’t end up losing any data. After seeing J.D Roth’s post, I did a quick check on my weekly backups and confirmed that backup policies are well in place, working fine and can be restored whenever needed. It’s the thought of having to spend more $$$, sometime in near future, installing everything all over again, customizations and all. But really, do I need to imagine the worst? Or, is there something I can still do short of opening my laptop and vacuuming dust away, maybe order a spare fan, replace it or some other work that involves more than a few minutes of my time? Or, maybe its the hard disk, maybe something else… is there a sure shot way to find out what is gonna go out (before it goes out)?
I don’t have a decibel meter but I can assure you, the fan and/or the hard disk (or something else.. don't know if the Graphics card has its own fan or…) is really noisy. BTW I had replaced the original hard disk with a 7200 RPM Seagate Barracuda 200 Gb HDD. For starters, here’s the current data for my Sony VAIO SZ491N.
Got any intelligent ideas? Send them in the comments below.
